Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers celebrate
'RSPB Feed the Birds Day'
with a Bird Food and Bird Feeder making event
at West Park, Macclesfield.
on Saturday 8 November 2008

More than one hundred visitors joined Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers, RSPB Phoenix and the RSPB Local Group to make bird food and bird feeders at the Feed the Birds Event in West Park.

As the days shorten and get colder, natural food resources become less plentiful for wild birds. The berries, fruits and insects that birds feast on become harder to find. Popular garden visitors such as robins, blackbirds and finches have come to depend on feeders and tables as reliable and easy sources of food.

Visitors made pine cone feeders, apple feeders, fatball holders and peanut feeders.

Lots of visitors also planted the seeds of native trees and shrubs - these will grow to provide a source of food and shelter for birds in the future.
