Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers visit
14th Macclesfield St John's Brownies
Wednesday 10th November 2010

Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers visited the
14th Macclesfield St John's Brownies to talk about caring for garden birds.

The Brownies learned all about the best ways to look after the wild birds in our gardens.

They looked at different nestboxes and made bird feeders.

The brownies played games to illustrate the challenges facing wild birds in different habitats.

The RSPB urges bird feeders to continue feeding birds in the winter months.

Birds are facing another harsh winter this year and stand a better chance of survival
if we provide food and fresh water for them in our gardens.

The RSPB recommends five kitchen scraps:
  • Uncooked porridge oats
  • Cake crumbs
  • Potatoes Ė baked, roast and even mashed
  • Grated cheese
  • Wind fallen, soft or over-ripe fruits.
