Leaders joined Friends of Victoria Park and staff from Puss Bank School
to host a Big Schools' Birdwatch 2012 event at Victoria Park on Fence Avenue in Macclesfield. |

Unpromising weather conditions did nothing to dampen our enthusiasm
and around 180 people braved the rain and cold for a super morning birdwatching. |

The children watched birds from the park bandstand and learned how to use binoculars and telescopes.

In all we recorded 18 different species - a great total for a site in the middle of town.
Top spots were a Goldcrest (Britain's smallest bird), a Nuthatch and a flock of 18 Redwings (winter visitors from Scandinavia). |

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars and 'spotting telescopes' safely, and to help with bird identification. |
