Big Schools Birdwatch 2012
Children from Puss Bank enjoyed a lovely mild January morning for their
Big Schools' Birdwatch.
Just one unfortunate Year 6 group got caught in a heavy shower.

There were lots of birds on the bird feeders that the school had put up.
We saw Blackbirds, Woodpigeons and a Wren rooting through the leaf litter looking for insects,
and lots of small finches and tits in the trees.

We had fun using binoculars and got incredible views of birds like Jackdaws and Black-headed gulls
using telescopes. We also got really quick at using our Bird ID charts.

Top spot of the day was a Sparrowhawk soaring over the school grounds
whilst being mobbed by four pigeons.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescope' safely, and to help with bird identification.
