Big Schools Birdwatch 2012
Even steady rain didn't dampen Year 2's enthusiasm
for the Big Schools' Birdwatch at Ivy Bank School.

Lots of students brought along their own binoculars
and everyone was keen to learn about the birds we spotted.

An amazing total of 14 Woodpigeons were sitting in the trees.
We could hear lots of little birds in the hedges but these were much more difficult to see.

Two Pied wagtails came down to feed on the playground after break
along with three Black-headed gulls that swooped down over our heads.

We were pleased to see Chaffinches, Starlings and Blackbirds too.

Best spots of the morning were two beautiful male Bullfinches and a Jay.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescope' safely, and to help with bird identification.
