Even steady rain didn't dampen Year 2's enthusiasm
for the Big Schools' Birdwatch at Ivy Bank School. |

Lots of students brought along their own binoculars
and everyone was keen to learn about the birds we spotted. |

An amazing total of 14 Woodpigeons were sitting in the trees.
We could hear lots of little birds in the hedges but these were much more difficult to see. |

Two Pied wagtails came down to feed on the playground after break
along with three Black-headed gulls that swooped down over our heads. |

We were pleased to see Chaffinches, Starlings and Blackbirds too.

Best spots of the morning were two beautiful male Bullfinches and a Jay.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescope' safely, and to help with bird identification. |
