The Headmaster, staff and pupils at Whirley Primary school hosted the
RSPB's Big Schools' Birdwatch as part of the programme of Pupil's Voice Conferences organised by feeder schools for Fallibroome High School. |
Student representatives were drawn from particpating schools including Whirley,
Prestbury, Bollinbrook, Upton Priory, Mottram St Andrew and Broken Cross.
These 'Ambassadors' included a number of keen, young ornithologists and even those new to
birdwatching were eager to identify and count the birds
during our session. |

The superb setting of Whirley Primary and the fact that the school had a good selection of bird feeders
set up meant we saw an incredible number of bird species. House sparrows, Blue tits, Great tits and Coal tits were all in evidence on the feeders. |

Amazingly our time outside coincided with a bright break between heavy showers of hail.

The best spot of the session was a kestrel sitting on a telegraph wire.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescope' safely, and to help with bird identification. Thank you to Whirley Primary School for hosting our session. |
