Big Schools Birdwatch 2012
Our final Big Schools' Birdwatch of 2012 took place on a cold bright afternoon at Prestbury Primary School.

Pupils from years 5 and 6 took up their binoculars with great enthusiasm.

We had lots of fun identifying Jackdaws sitting on rooftops and in the trees.

We learned how they differ from the other large black coloured birds we saw (Carrion crows)
by using telescopes to get really good views.

We were all delighted to get excellent views of two Tree creepers and two tiny Goldcrests in the trees.

Rooting round in the leaf litter alongside Blackbirds and Squirrels
we also spotted two beautiful Redwings (winter visitors from Scandinavia.)

In the closing minutes of our birdwatch a Grey heron with a huge wingspan flew over.
Unfortunately it didn't land but certainly ended our session on a high!

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescope' safely, and to help with bird identification.
