Sustainability Week at
Hurdsfield Primary School
Hulley Road, Macclesfield SK10 2LW.
Sunday 9th September 2012
Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers visited Hurdsfield County Primary School as part of Sustainability Week, organised by the Bollin Valley Partnership.
Year 1 children collected lots of things to recycle like cardboard, twigs, bark, moss, straws,
clay pipes, tiles, broken plant pots, pine cones, stones and shells.
These items were then added to a base constructed of old pallets to transform it into a fabulous
overwintering habitat for minibeasts and small mammals: a Hibernation Hotel.
We even added a special toad hole at the side to provide a place for amphibians
like frogs, toads and newts to hibernate safely.
We had lots of fun making special places for tiny creatures to shelter in
and before we had even finished our first guests moved in - a worm and a ladybird!
