Big Schools Birdwatch at Rainow Pre-School
Leaders visited Rainow Preschool with a special helper
- Audrey from the RSPB nature reserve at Coombes Valley.

We talked about what makes birds special, different kinds of garden birds and how to count them.
There were some brilliant birdwatchers who could easily identify robins and blackbirds.

After snack time the group made apple feeders by pressing lots of black sunflower seeds into apples.
We learned how we can help birds in our gardens by giving them food and water.

There was lots of snow still on the ground as we completed our Birdwatch during a walk down the lane.

We spotted lots of jackdaws and heard them calling out 'jak, jak' from the trees.
(One was warming himself on a chimney pot!)
Other fabulous spots included a pair of bullfinches and a tiny coal tit.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescopes' safely, and to help with bird identification.
