Big Schools Birdwatch in Victoria Park

Big Schools Birdwatch at Hurdsfield Primary School
Teachers, parent helpers and all of the children from Hurdsfield Primary school braved freezing temperatures to join a busy birdwatch at Victoria Park.

The children wrapped up warm and walked to the park in groups.

We used binoculars and telescopes to watch birds hunting for food around the trees and brushes.

Several pupils came armed with their own binoculars.

We got excellent views of jackdaws, blackbirds and woodpigeon.

As it was so bitterly cold Alec encouraged us all to warm up with a seasonal 'Weather dance'.

Luckily the forecast snowfall held off till well after our event.
The bird list was incredible and included nuthatches, a jay and flocks of greenfinch, long-tailed tit and redwing.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescopes' safely, and to help with bird identification.
