2013 Big Garden Birdwatch

After a week of heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures then torrential rain it was a great surprise that we were lucky enough to have a bright, mild, sunny morning for our 2013 Big Garden Birdwatch meeting at West Park.

Before our walk we looked at pictures of some garden birds.
Wildlife Explorers were brilliant at identifying them - even rare birds like tree sparrows!

Experts from the Local RSPB Group Dave and Ray were on hand to lead our walk and make sure that we accurately spotted as many birds as possibe.

Binoculars and telescopes were provided so that we would all get good views of the birds we found.

To make sure that we kept warm on our walk, David and Tina led the group in a Rain Dance!

(Please note that this is a large file and may take a few moments to start.)
Don't forget to turn your sound up.

Thank you to everyone who turned up to help with our Birdwatch.

The RSPB will use our results to help build up a picture of what is happening to garden bird populations
across the country and identify which birds need conservation action to protect them.

Volunteer RSPB Wildlife Explorer Leaders were on hand to explain how to use binoculars
and 'spotting telescopes' safely, and to help with bird identification.
