Dawn Chorus at Ladderstyle Farm

Sunday 28th April 2013

Dawn Chorus
Wildlife Explorers and RSPB Phoenix members defied the weather forecast to celebrate listening to the Dawn Chorus at Ladderstile Farm in North Rode, Bosley. With alarm clocks set for 5am this was the earliest some of our members had been up in the morning since the event last year!!

The morning was mild and bright - probably the best weather of the whole day.

Our walk took us around part of the farm and along the banks of the River Dane.

There were plenty of birds in full song.

The most impressive being tiny wrens, dunnocks and robins.

We heard and saw some of the newly arrived migrants including chiff chaff and swallow.

Perhaps our most surprising spots were repeated close views of circling goosanders.

After surprising a fox we got long views of his retreat into the bushes.

The event culminated in an excellent barbeque breakfast provided by our dedicated catering team.
Porridge, bacon butties and sausages in rolls!
Delicious, and even better after such a lovely early morning walk.

It is a very busy time for the farm - lambing is just coming to an end.
The 600 sheep and lambs share the farm with some very attractive Galloway cattle and a few hens!
